Holiday gift guides are taking over my inbox, Starbucks is serving my favorite peppermint mocha in its seasonal cup, and NorthPark is decorated to the nines. Yes, it seems
a little on the early side as Thanksgiving hasn’t even happened yet. But
I could definitely use a little holiday cheer after a rough couple of weeks.
Christmas is my second favorite holiday (my birthday being the first!), so I
couldn’t resist the urge to style a holiday-themed outfit.

I started with a ballerina-inspired bun a la The Nutcracker
and built my outfit from there. Side note: I was a bratty ballerina. My dad filmed a particularly humiliating ballet
performance on VHS (remember those?!) when I was about 4 years old.
Another little dancer got bored, so she sat down on stage- right in
the middle of my big debut! I picked her up and started forcing her little
limbs to go through the motions with me. Needless to say, the other parents
were not amused by my miniature prima donna behavior.  A parent can be heard on tape saying, “Whose kid is that?”
My dad wisely responded, “I have no idea!”
            I
love a fierce red as much as the next holiday shopper, but pink can be a
welcome alternative for your next fabulous fête. When I saw this pink crushed velvet top at J.Crew, I must confess I shrieked in happiness and proudly named it my
Malibu Barbie shirt. To up the cuteness factor, I also added a pearl headband
and delicate bow belt (similar). Both are inexpensive accessories from my go-to store, Forever21. Because I
firmly believe no one should attend a cocktail party without a sparkly clutch and
cocktail ring, I added a glam gold clutch from Anthropologie and
ring from Charlotte Russe. I’m thinking about crafting the oversized bauble into
a brooch and wearing it on the collar of a blouse.
            To
balance the ultra-femme outfit, I edged things up with a pleated Forever21 leather skirt and my tried and true Tory Burch ankle booties (similar). Robbi Jo Robyn, a budding fashion photographer, designed the shoot in Deep Ellum to amp up the tough-chic feel as well. Like what you see? You can check out more of Robbi Jo’s work on her

you written your Christmas list to Santa this year? Let me know what you’re wishing
for in the comments!
