Happy September! How crazy is that? Didn’t August just start? Even though it has been 90+ degrees in LA this weekend, I guess it’s safe to say our beloved summer is over. To give summer the proper goodbye it deserves, I’m rounding up my favorite outfits I wore this past season. Grab a glass of rosé, put on those summer stripes and white jeans for one of the last times and let’s get scrolling! Honestly I’ll probably be wearing most of these outfits through October (thank you California sunshine!) but in blog land, we’ll be transitioning to cozy fall looks.

2017 has been by far the craziest, most out-of-my-comfort-zone year of my life so far. At the very end of 2016, I left Dallas and moved back to LA to be with my family and build a new career for myself. The first half of 2017, I felt a little all over the place getting settled in LA and re-establishing my roots here. This summer is when things really started clicking for me. I stopped visiting Dallas every 5 seconds and made the choice to invest in my new life here. I’ve gotten completely obsessed with event planning and recently expanded Brooke du jour into my own event planning company, Brooke du jour Events. I also started planning events for a dating app, assisting a wedding planner and styling at a jewelry store. Clearly Summer 2017 has been a lesson in multi-tasking and let’s be honest—LA rent is no joke! I’ve also continued to make great girlfriends here and started navigating the dating scene– Hats off to all my fellow soldiers who are braving Bumble and Bungalow!
How are you feeling about the new season ahead? If you find yourself in need of a pep talk like I did a few months ago, save the following note in your phone. This Instagram post from I Am Her Tribe gave me the ass-kicking I needed. How millennial is that? Go figure.
“Quit hiding your magic. The world is ready for you.
Today, I choose to burn my good candles on a Wednesday morning, just because I want to. I choose to use the expensive lotion, sweep the floors in my favorite dress, not ration any of my cherished belongings just to make them last longer—because I am worth investing in…
Today, I choose to wear that thing. You know, the one I told myself I would slip on when I looked a certain way? I choose to have that conversation—the scary one, the unspoken words that have nestled in between my shoulder blades. I choose to say that yes. Demand that no. Take that chance. Because right now? Well, it’s all I will ever own.
Today, I choose to let that go. Really let that go. To honor what was, what is and what will be once more.
Today, I choose to let that in. Really in. Heart space in. The authentic, messy, adventurous…
Today, I choose to step forward with both feet firmly planted—into the all-is-possible, unknown and brand new.”
This fall, you are worth investing in. Go get it, girl.
