I’m so excited to share with you an article I wrote for one of my journalism classes. I was incredibly fortunate to interview Joyce Corrigan, a former editor-in-chief of Elle and current contributing editor of Marie Claire. Yeah, she’s pretty major. Read below for a short excerpt. Can’t get enough? You can find the full article at www.smufashionmedia.com to learn more about Joyce’s life in the fashion fast lane.

“Karl Lagerfeld only wanted to be paid in champagne!”

The highlight of Joyce Corrigan’s career came in the late 1980s when she collaborated on an article with current Chanel Head Designer and Creative Director Karl Lagerfeld, current Vogue International Editor-at-Large Hamish Bowles, and current Vanity Fair Fashion and Style Director Michael Roberts.

“We got some of the famous dandies in London to dress in their finest… and all these English eccentrics [to participate]. We called it ‘The Year of Dressing Dangerously,’ because these guys encouraged a lot of trash talking as they walked down the street, and they didn’t care,” Corrigan said of the article she edited for the London Sunday Times Magazine.
Corrigan has worked with the biggest and brightest names in fashion over the past three decades. Most notably, she was the editor-in-chief of Elle magazine in 1991 and the editor-at-large of Marie Claire magazine from 2006 to 2010. She currently serves as a contributing editor for Marie Claire. Highly coveted positions such as Fox TV’s style reporter and New York correspondent for Condé Nast Traveler stand out on Corrigan’s resume. She has also contributed to Italian Vogue magazine, British Elle magazine and Cosmopolitan magazine, among others.
