Spotlight on Merritt Beck of The Style Scribe

In my Reporting II class at SMU, we were given the assignment to profile someone whose career we aspire to. I immediately asked Merritt Beck and she graciously accepted. I have so much respect for Merritt as the founder of the blog The Style Scribe and as the U.S. marketing director of rewardStyle. Out of the 7,000 bloggers rewardStyle works with internationally, Merritt is counted amongst the 25 highest earners for 2011 and 2012. Did I also mention she’s only 26 years old? Talk about beauty and brains! I must have tried on about 10 different outfits the morning of…

Rhubarb Pink

All photos by Kim Haller, the best roomie a girl could ask for : ) Loft top (snagged on sale for $22!), Hermès belt, DVF skirt (similar), Prada bag,  Nine West shoes (similar) I know, I know. You must be thinking, “We get it. This girl really loves her pink.” But it’s true. I almost always choose something pink from my (overflowing and way too small) closet. I’m a firm believer in dressing in the color that makes you feel the happiest : ) You’ll rarely find me in all black (unless I’m having an Angelina moment). Have a great…

Guest Blogger: Morgan Shepard of Lipstick, Louboutin’s & Lemon Drops

When I wake up, the very first act of my day is stumbling to my computer (still clad in my heart pajamas) and checking out my daily blog reads. Lipstick, Louboutin’s & Lemon Drops has been on my list since Morgan started blogging in December 2011. Her creative DIY posts always steal the show in my opinion. I’m no wizard with a glue gun so I seriously respect Morgan’s Martha Stewart skills. In the spirit of the Oscars this weekend, Morgan is sharing a decorative tip to complement your soiree: a chalkboard cheese platter! Just add your gals, gowns and cheap champagne…

J.Crew Does It Again

A huge thanks to Maggie Murphy for taking the photos. J.Crew top, YSL belt (a hand-me-down from my mama), Gap jeans, Tory Burch purse (similar), Tory Burch boots (similar) I was initially very distrusting of the denim-on-denim trend. It gives me bad flashbacks to Britney and Justin at the American Music Awards circa 2001. But I was sold when I tried on this chambray oxford top with its pretty, patterned, high collar. Come on, rhinestones and ruffles?! I know I’m going to get a lot of wear out of such a classic and versatile piece this season and beyond. I…

New York, I Love You

When my fellow teenyboppers were reading J-14, I would devour my mom’s copy of Marie Claire from cover to cover, which is why this blog post feels so surreal. I have very exciting news to share! I will be interning in the features department at Marie Claire in New York this summer! I’m so grateful for such a wonderful opportunity to learn and grow as a writer. I can’t wait to work with passionate people who love what they do and share my journey with y’all. New York, here I come! Keira Knightley on the cover of Marie Claire March…
