I love creating
outfit posts and product collages, but I’d like to diversify Brooke du jour a
bit more. As a Journalism nerd, I truly enjoy connecting with interesting
people and sharing their stories with the world. So, I’ve decided to add more
interviews with fashion, beauty and lifestyle experts. First on the
list is Blushington CEO and Founder Stephi Maron!

When I was
in high school in LA, my friends and I would get our makeup done before dances.
There weren’t any relatively inexpensive studios around, so we ended up forking
over a lot of cash to department stores to get glam. So we (and our wallets!)
were thrilled when Blushington opened its first location in West Hollywood. Blushington offers
professional makeup applications for 40 bucks! Blushington must have
telepathically sensed how much I missed ‘em in Dallas, so they recently opened a
brand new location just minutes from SMU!

I was lucky
enough to interview Stephi who couldn’t have been sweeter. The Daily Campus will publish the full article in a few weeks, but for now, here’s an
exclusive sneak peek for Brooke du jour readers!

1.
What was your inspiration for opening Blushington’s
first location in LA?

It was around December. I had family in town and
we were going to Dry Bar to get our hair done. They asked me where they could
get their makeup done too. I couldn’t suggest a place for them to go, so I decided
right then and there [to open Blushington]! I didn’t want to send my family to
a department store, because they just push you to buy products and you aren’t
getting a professional makeup application. I also didn’t want to send them to
MAC, because I don’t like how they do makeup. Blushington is a fun place to go
with your girlfriends to get your makeup done- We serve complimentary
champagne! I also wanted something that was quick and not super expensive. From
there, I just went for it and took a chance. I really believe the market has a need for this.

2.
How has the transition been from LA to Dallas?
Is your team wearing cowboy boots and saying “y’all” yet?

The transition has been awesome. The people we
hire have the same qualities morals, values and talent. I’ve been here for a
little over two months and have no complaints!

3.
Did you select your Oak Lawn location to appeal
to SMU students? Or who is your typical customer?

We don’t have a specific target demographic. We
try to target a little bit of everyone, but we did choose our location because
it’s right next to Dry Bar. It worked perfectly for us in LA, so it seemed
meant to be in Dallas as well. It was synergistic and easy!

4.
What sets your studio apart from other makeup
studios in the area?

We really cater to customer needs and not a lot
of places can really say they do that. The unique brands that we carry are
exclusive- except for Stila. We don’t pressure people into buying products.
Blushington is really about the makeup, the industry, and our talent without
the pressure of spending too much money. It’s fun and the inside is really
cute, girly, trendy and modern. The décor and the atmosphere definitely make it
different form other makeup stores.

5.
Do you have any future plans to open up more
locations?

Yes! I plan to open a lot more locations, but
I’m not sure where. As long as it’s a place where there’s a lot happening.
Especially if there’s a place open next to Dry Bar!

6.
Is there anything I haven’t asked that you would
like to tell me about Blushington?

We do at-home services and classes. What’s
unique about our classes is we allow you guys to bring in your own makeup. The
artists can teach one-on-one. You don’t have to buy a whole bunch of new
products but you can learn to use whatever you already have. Also, our experts
can tell you if you’re using the right products for your skin. The artist does
one half of your face and you do the other so you feel confident as you leave!

Blushington is located at 4218 Oak Lawn Avenue and open Monday-Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday-Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Book appointments for you and your best
girls for sorority formal season by calling (214) 521-9200. See you there! : )
